Lou’s News #27 – Avalanche Dreams wins Baldur Award

Post by Louis Dawson | January 6, 2025

Hi All,

I’m pleased and honored to announce that my memoir, Avalanche Dreams, has won a Baldur award from the International Skiing History Association (ISHA.)

The Baldur is presented for an “outstanding work of general interest that sheds significant light on an aspect of skiing history.”

In terms of history, Avalanche Dreams more than qualifies. Embodied in the book’s overall plot as a transformational memoir, it touches on everything from 10th Mountain Division stories to historical bits on ski mountaineering—all in the context of Colorado mountain town travails.

Friends, this award is legit! And it’s my second round with an ISHA. My history book, Wild Snow, won its ULLR award in 1998.

The awards will be presented during a banquet in Lake Placid, NY, on March 28, in conjunction with the ISHA Ski and Snowboard History Celebration Week. Along with my wife, Lisa, I’ll be there to accept the award and sign books. We hope to see you there.
